iPhone: Read About It Or BE It?

November 5, 2009

When I have the time and remember, I do eBook/book news tweets.

Part of this coverage also encompasses some games for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Why?

Because other books aren’t competing against other books for attention.

Books are competing against casual games on the iPhone/iPod Touch!

Take someone who doesn’t have an affinity for reading to begin with and which do you think they’d rather do? Read about Dracula or go hunt him down?

I don’t think there has yet been a single eBook or digital book that can brag of this statistic: Multiplayer iPhone FPS Eliminate Pro shifts 500,000 downloads in under a week.

It’s also very telling that no one has even tried to do this for books: Want to know which iPhone apps are hot on Twitter?

Breaking through with a book is getting harder.

Only digital books offer an edge in this cut-throat environment.

ePub For Seniors

E-books’ holiday charge

Epps doesn’t think that today’s e-readers will do for e-books what the iPod did for MP3s. Even if 10 million people are toting an e-book reader at the end of next year, that’s less than 1 percent of the 110 million people who have MP3 players. And at current prices, she believes the market for e-readers will top out at 25 million.

Emphasis added by me.

I think even with significantly lower prices it won’t go beyond that.

The leisurely pace of limited eInk is well suited to the geriatric set.

And as they die off, you think the young will take their place?

They’ll have been busy reading digital books.

Oprah To Move To Direct Publishing!

November 5, 2009

First Warren Ellis, now Oprah!

THE END OF ‘OPRAH’ AS WE KNOW HER: Daytime Diva Giving Up Syndie Talk Show & Moving It To Her Cable Network In 2011

Oprah will tell the public that she’s ending her syndicated Chicago-based daytime talk show when her current deal runs out and moving it to OWN [Oprah Winfrey Network] headquarters in Los Angeles probably as soon as mid-2011.

This isn’t as tongue-in-cheek as you think.

Consider all the aggravation that comes from dealing with people who don’t share your vision — who in fact oppose your vision. They become spineless suckups when their opposition collapses to expose their imbecility and cowardice.

Would you want to continue to be surrounded by such people?

Spielberg, Katzenberg, and Geffen formed DreamWorks SKG.

Well before them Chaplin, Pickford, Fairbanks, and Griffith created United Artists.

Revel while you can, you greedy, venal, and dishonest Suits.

Your day is coming to an end.

ePub-Capable Quantum Reader For iPhone Soon?

November 5, 2009

There’s a new eBook reading app coming to the iPhone from a company called KiwiTech.

QR002

However, it’s unclear what it will offer users.

It’s called Quantum Reader and makes these claims:

QR001
Click = big

But what exactly does that mean?
